About
I am a political scientist specializing in the political economy of green industrial transformation in Northeast Asia. My research examines how democratic states build and deploy strategic state capacity to navigate industrial restructuring under conditions of geopolitical competition and technological change.
Focusing on South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, my book project analyzes how policy elites reconcile decarbonization goals with industrial strategy, energy security concerns, and shifting global supply chains. My other projects include analysis on how governments and industries strategically respond to pressures arising from the US–China technological rivalry and the reconfiguration of EV and battery supply chains.
Professional Path
Currently, I am a Senior Research Specialist at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APFC), where I contribute to policy research aligned with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. Starting in March 2026, I will also be a Visiting Research Fellow at the Taipei School of Economics and Political Science (TSE).
I completed my Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of British Columbia (2025). My dissertation, Race to Go Green: Three Pathways in Green Industrial Revolution, examined the intersection of elite cognition and paradigm shifts in green governance across East Asia. My academic foundation includes an M.A. and B.A. in Political Science from Korea University, with a double major in Politics, Economics, and Law.
